LAHORE: Hafiz Naeem-ur Rehman has assumed the role of Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan (JIP), succeeding Sirajul Haq in the position.
The JIP’s Majlis-e-Shura, overseen by the election commission, witnessed the participation of approximately 45,000 party members nationwide in the voting process.
Notably, around 6,000 female party members actively engaged in the electoral proceedings, contributing to an impressive 82 percent overall turnout.
Sirajul Haq announced his resignation from the party’s leadership on February 12, following the party’s defeat in the February 8 general elections, taking full responsibility for the outcome.
Expressing his decision on X (formerly Twitter), Sirajul Haq stated, “I accept responsibility for the election defeat and have resigned from the post of party ameer.”
Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, who had previously served as the Karachi Ameer of the party since 2013, has a long-standing history with JI, joining in 2000. Over the years, he held various positions within the party, including Assistant Secretary, General Secretary, and Deputy Emir of Karachi. In 2013, he assumed the role of Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Karachi Chapter.
Additionally, in the 2024 elections, Hafiz Naeem won the Sindh Assembly seat from PS-129 (Karachi Central VIII). However, he chose to relinquish his seat citing discrepancies in the vote tallying process. Allegedly, his votes were incorrectly decreased by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in the Form 47 documentation.
