Gujrat Police recover Rs 1.84 crore in gold and cash from fraudster

GUJRAT: The B Division police have arrested Raja Imran, son of Muhammad Latif, a known figure in the local jewelry trade, for allegedly looting gold ornaments worth Rs 1 crore 72 lakh and Rs 12 lakh in cash from two jewelry shops in Sarafa Bazaar.

The accused, who had established trust among shopkeepers through past consignment-based dealings, exploited this trust to carry out the theft.

According to the complaints filed at Police Station B Division, Imran had previously borrowed jewelry from shopkeepers under the pretext of showcasing it to customers, only to return it later. This practice had earned him credibility in Sarafa Bazaar.

On June 8, 2026, he visited two jewelry shops separately. From the first shopkeeper, he took 36 gold rings, and from the second, he obtained 2 gold bracelets, 10 gold bangles, and 24 gold rings—before fleeing with the stolen items.

Upon receiving the complaints, Sub-Inspector Shafqat Mahmood, the Station House Officer (SHO) of B Division, initiated a prompt investigation.

Using modern technology and professional policing techniques, the team successfully traced and arrested Imran. The recovered loot, including the gold ornaments and cash, totals Rs 1.84 crore.

The seized items have been returned to their rightful owners. Imran now faces charges of theft, breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy. Authorities are investigating whether he acted alone or was part of a larger network targeting jewelry businesses in the region.
