Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Federal Minister for Communication Aleem Khan reached a consensus on Thursday to construct the M6 Motorway from Karachi to Sukkur, passing through Hyderabad, rather than the previously proposed route from Hyderabad to Sukkur.
They also discussed the potential for the motorway to be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP) or a consortium formed by the Sindh and federal governments.
This agreement was made during a meeting at CM House, which included key officials such as Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Secretary to CM Raheem Shaikh, Federal Secretary for Works Mohammad Ali Shaikh, and Federal Communication Secretary Ali Sher Mehsud, along with Chairman of the National Highway Authority (NHA) Shaharyar Sultan and other NHA members.
The proposed Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway will stretch 306 kilometers, featuring a six-lane, access-controlled highway designed for high-speed toll road use, aimed at improving efficient and safe transportation between Hyderabad and the Naro Canal.
During the meeting, a federal minister proposed that the M6 begin from Karachi to Sukkur via Hyderabad to better manage port traffic. The Chief Minister supported this suggestion and considered various construction modalities.
Moreover, a proposal was made to create a consortium between the federal and provincial governments to ensure equal partnership in the M6 project.
