Islamabad: The federal government has reportedly decided in principle to initiate significant legal proceedings against former Prime Minister Imran Khan.
A comprehensive plan has been prepared to file a criminal case against Khan under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) based on a federal government complaint.
Imran Khan is accused of inciting rebellion against the state and its institutions through social media platforms.
According to senior government sources, the plan will be presented to the federal cabinet for approval. The Ministry of Interior has been tasked with drafting a summary for cabinet consideration.
The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing conducted an inquiry into the allegations, leading to the decision for legal proceedings. Following the cabinet’s approval, the case will likely proceed to trial in a special anti-terrorism court.
The planned charges against Khan fall under Chapters 6 and 9A of the PPC and other related sections. Under Section 196 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), federal cabinet approval is a prerequisite for filing complaints and prosecuting specific offenses.
The developments signal intensified legal challenges for the former premier as the government moves forward with the proposed action.
