Shehbaz Sharif has launched the “Apna Ghar” housing program to expand access to affordable homeownership for low- and middle-income citizens.

The initiative enables eligible applicants to obtain housing finance ranging from Rs2.5 million to Rs10 million, repayable over a 20-year period through manageable monthly installments.

The scheme is structured into four loan categories, Rs2.5 million, Rs5 million, Rs7.5 million, and Rs10 million, allowing applicants to either purchase or construct a 10-marla house or acquire a residential plot of similar size.

To ease the financial burden, a fixed markup rate of 5% will apply during the first 10 years, after which a standard market rate will be charged for the remaining tenure.

Monthly installments have been designed to remain affordable, starting at approximately Rs16,499 for a Rs2.5 million loan and going up to around Rs65,999 for the maximum financing option. Slight variations in installment figures have also been reported across different program disclosures.

Eligibility criteria require applicants to hold a valid CNIC and have no outstanding debt obligations, ensuring the scheme benefits genuinely deserving individuals. The government will finance up to 90% of the property value, while applicants contribute the remaining 10%, with no upfront fees or advance payments required.
