Govt decides to ban domestic child labour

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to ban the employment of children.
In this regard, Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari informed the Senate that the government has decided to take the step for the protection of children. Mazari said that child abuse starts at home.”The government is banning child domestic work and the cabinet has also approved a bill in this regard,” Mazari added.
About 12 million children work in Pakistan, according to the Pakistan Children’s Rights Organization. Of these, 6 million children are over 10 years old.

Official data on child labor in Pakistan was compiled 18 years ago, according to which 73 percent of boys and 27 percent of girls are victims of child labor.
Mazari said that combined efforts were being made to ensure the protection of the rights of women and children in Pakistan. He said that an awareness campaign has been launched in the media for the last one-year to protect women’s inheritance rights and prevent the exploitation of children.
Mazari said that the government was continuing its efforts to protect children and women working in the home and was immediately banning work in the home.
