Lieutenant General (retd) Nazir Ahmed has been appointed as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice said on Saturday.
The statement claimed that the appointment had been made by the federal government after a consensus between the prime minister and the opposition leader.
The federal cabinet approved the appointment through the circulation summary. The appointment has been made after the consensus reached between PM Shehbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Raja Riaz.
It should be noted that the post of the NAB chairman fell vacant on February 15 after Aftab Sultan tendered his resignation — which was then accepted by the prime minister on February 23.
The appointment has been made for the period of three years.

The recipient of Hilal e Imtiaz was commissioned in the 40 Frontier Force Regiment, Pakistan Army in 1983. He graduated from the Command and Staff College, and the National Defence University, Pakistan.
Prior to his appointment as commander of the Peshawar Corps in December 2016, he served as commander of the Pakistan Military Academy (PMA) in addition to commanding an infantry division in the then Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
He was promoted to lieutenant general in 2014 and was subsequently appointed as inspector general of Communications and Information Technology at the General Headquarters.
