All government and private schools in Islamabad and Rawalpindi are set to reopen tomorrow (Thursday) after being closed for three days due to protests called by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The announcement was made by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, following a successful clearing operation that forced PTI protesters to vacate the protest areas. “Schools will reopen from tomorrow (Thursday), and mobile internet services will be restored by today (Wednesday) morning,” Naqvi said.
The schools had been closed since Saturday in response to PTI’s protest scheduled for November 24. The extended closure had raised concerns among parents in both cities, who expressed worries about the negative impact on their children’s academic progress. Many parents noted that students had faced significant setbacks, and while online classes were encouraged in some areas, they were not considered a viable replacement for in-person education, particularly for younger children.
By Wednesday morning, life in the twin cities had largely returned to normal as authorities cleared all road blockages. Islamabad’s Deputy Commissioner Irfan Memon directed assistant commissioners to ensure the immediate reopening of all closed routes across the city. Additionally, Memon ordered cleaning operations at major intersections to restore order and cleanliness.
