The government has announced a further increase in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel in Pakistan.
According to the notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs3.81 per litre, taking the new price to Rs341.59 per litre.
Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has gone up by Rs3.59 per litre, bringing its new price to Rs368.29 per litre.
The latest increase will add to transportation and fuel costs for consumers and businesses amid ongoing fluctuations in global oil prices.
According to the Petroleum Division’s notification, the revised prices of petroleum products will remain in effect until August 24.
The Ogra has begun publishing daily petroleum prices on its website to improve transparency and allow international price changes to be passed on to consumers more quickly.
Amid volatility in global oil rates on the back of renewed hostilities in the Middle East, the government decided to switch to a daily fuel price review mechanism.
The government had introduced a weekly fuel price review system after the conflict in the Middle East began on February 28, when Israel and the United States attacked Iran, leading Tehran to shut the Strait of Hormuz — the main route before the war for around a fifth of global energy supplies.
