Gary Kirsten, Pakistan’s head coach, realized what ails the Pakistan cricket team in just under a month. The legendary South African coach expressed his concerns over the lack of unity within the team, stating that no one supports anyone else, and instead, they are working in isolation.
According to a media report, Kirsten addressed the Pakistan team after their exit from the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024, saying that the team significantly lags in skill compared to international standards. He noted a lack of clarity in shot selection despite extensive match experience.
Kirsten unequivocally stated that players who demonstrate improvements in these areas will earn their place in the team, while those who do not will face exclusion.
Meanwhile, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh advised head coach Gary Kirsten not to waste his time with the Men in Green.
“Don’t waste your time there, Gary. Come back to coach Team India,” the former cricketer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The Green Shirts had a disastrous start to their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign, suffering a shock loss against the USA in the Super Over. Pakistan then succumbed to a frustrating six-wicket defeat against arch-rivals India at a jam-packed Nassau County International Cricket Stadium on June 9.
