Fresh Islamabad traffic plan issued after inconclusive US-Iran talks

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital remained under a heavy security blanket today as high-stakes peace negotiations between the United States and Iran, hosted by Pakistan, concluded with an “inconclusive” status. While the “Islamabad Talks” brought global attention to the city, they also brought significant movement restrictions for residents.

Despite marathon sessions involving US Vice President J.D. Vance and high-level Iranian officials, the talks aimed at de-escalating the two-month-old conflict have hit a stalemate. AS per reports made available online, key points of contention, including control of the Strait of Hormuz and nuclear guarantees, remain unresolved. As the foreign delegations depart, the city continues to navigate the logistical aftermath of hosting such a massive diplomatic event.

Meanwhile, the Islamabad Police have issued a comprehensive traffic plan, apparently with aim to facilitate the departure of foreign dignitaries and maintain security, with citizens being urged to avoid unnecessary travel.

The following routes remain closed to all traffic:
– Islamabad Expressway & Srinagar Highway: Major diversions are in place. Public transport is strictly prohibited on these routes.
– The Red Zone & Extended Red Zone: Completely sealed for all types of traffic.
– Specific Road Closures:
1. Kashmir Chowk (Club Road) towards Zero Point (Srinagar Highway).
2. Srinagar Highway from Zero Point towards Serena Chowk.
3. Shakar Parian Road from Chand Tara Chowk towards Seventh Avenue.
4. Jinnah Avenue from Khayaban Chowk towards Blue Area.
5. Margalla Road from Faisal Chowk to Trail 3.

Authorities have requested that transporters refrain from parking at bus stops or loops to prevent bottlenecks.

Emergency Note: Residents are advised to stay home except in cases of emergency. For those who must travel, the Islamabad Police recommend following the “Alternative Traffic Plan” available on their official social media handles and through radio updates.

While the diplomatic outcome remains “inconclusive,” the heavy security presence and road blocks are expected to be phased out gradually as the delegations clear the capital’s airspace later this evening.
