Former Italian star asks Messi to follow Maradona’s footsteps and join Napoli

Lionel Messi has been urged to follow in the footsteps of Argentina legend Diego Maradona by joining Serie A side Napoli when his current Paris Saint-Germain contract expires in the summer.

The Argentine is into the final months of his contract with PSG following his move to Paris after spending 17 seasons with Barcelona in La Liga.

Lionel Messi is yet to agree to a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain, although the Ligue 1 giant is in negotiations with the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner to extend his time in the French capital.

Former Italian football player and coach Roberto Donadoni, according to PSG Talk, believes Napoli will be the best fit for Messi if he decides to part ways with the Parisian club.

“I think that at this moment, in the same team where the one that Maradona played. Napoli is playing perfect football for Messi, playing with the ball, without too much speed but with a lot of technique,”  Donadoni said.

Maradona remains Napoli’s biggest football hero after leading the Italian side to their only two league titles in 1987 and 1990, with their stadium even named after him.

Meanwhil, La Liga president, Javier Tebas has revealed he would want Messi to return to Barcelona after spending two seasons away from the Catalan giants. Tebas confessed it would be good for all parties involved to have the ‘greatest player of all-time’ back in the Spanish league following the forward’s departure in 2021 to join the Parisians.
