Former Afghan president Karzai inquires about Nawaz’s health

LONDON: Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai on Saturday visited former prime minister Nawaz Sharif in London.

Karzai was received by Nawaz’s sons, Hussain and Hassan, upon his arrival at the family’s Avenfield House residents. PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif and his sons were present during the meeting with the former Afghan president.

Speaking to reporters outside the residence, Karzai said he was delighted to visit the Sharif brothers. He added that he had visited to inquire about Nawaz Sharif’s health.

The former Afghan president told Pakistani media that he was ‘delighted’ to meet Nawaz. “I am very happy upon meeting my good friend Nawaz and his brother Shehbaz. He’s in good health and has been extremely kind,” said Karzai.

“On my visits to Pakistan and on his visits to Afghanistan, he’s been extremely kind. I was happy to see him in good health,” the former Afghan president said.

Shehbaz Sharif thank Karzai for taking time out to visit and inquire about Nawaz’s health. “I have always maintained that our sorrows and happiness are shared and the future of Pakistan & Afghanistan is interwoven, challenges notwithstanding,” he wrote in a statement on Twitter.

Nawaz had arrived in London on November 19 along with his brother Shehbaz being granted permission to travel abroad on medical grounds.

The former premier and members of his family have consulted with several doctors. He had arrived in London three weeks after he was granted bail by the Islamabad High Court in the Al Azizia case on medical grounds.
