Five laborers from Punjab were killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire in Balochistan’s Washuk district, police said on Sunday.
The attackers fled the scene after the shooting, while the Balochistan government ordered a transparent investigation and directed authorities to arrest those responsible without delay.
According to police, the incident took place in the Mashkel area of Washuk district, where armed assailants opened fire on shops, killing five people on the spot.
Police said all five victims were residents of different areas of Punjab and were working as laborers at the shops that came under attack.
The attackers escaped after the shooting, police said, adding that security forces cordoned off the area and launched an investigation.
After completing the necessary legal formalities, the bodies of the victims were dispatched to their hometowns.
Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind strongly condemned the attack, describing the killing of five people in Mashkel as a tragic and reprehensible incident. He said the provincial government had taken immediate notice of the incident and ordered a transparent and impartial investigation.
Rind said those involved in the killing of innocent civilians would not escape the law. He added that law enforcement agencies had been directed to arrest the suspects immediately and bring them to justice.
The spokesperson said the Balochistan government stood with the bereaved families and would provide them with all possible support.
