KHAIRPUR: At least five people, including a 17-year-old girl, were killed and one person was injured in separate incidents of violence and lawlessness across Khairpur and its adjoining areas during the past 12 hours.
According to preliminary reports, armed robbers opened fire on passengers near the old National Highway in the Kot Diji area after they allegedly refused to stop during an attempted highway robbery.
Engineer Faisal Gulzar Bhutto was killed in the firing, while another passenger, Daniyal, sustained injuries.
In a separate incident near Qada, a 17-year-old girl was shot dead by an unidentified suspect.
Meanwhile, Asif Jagirani was also killed near Pir Goth after being allegedly targeted over accusations of corruption.
Police and local residents also recovered two tortured bodies from separate locations near Shah Hussain.
The identities of the deceased had not been established at the time of reporting, and investigations were under way to determine the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
In another incident near Thari Mirwah, police officer Khalid was allegedly taken hostage by armed suspects while returning home after completing his duty. The assailants reportedly snatched his official weapon, mobile phone and cash before fleeing.
Sub-Inspector Allah Joey was also reportedly held hostage by unidentified suspects, who took away his motorcycle and cash.
