KARACHI: A massive fire erupted in a garments factory near Habib Chowrangi in SITE area early on Saturday morning.
Police said fire brigade vehicles have arrived at the scene to put out the blaze that has been declared a third-degree fire. Television footage showed plumes of black smoke rising from the industrial unit which can be seen from a distance.
One person is said to have sustained burn wounds in the fire incident However, no loss of life has been reported as hectic are efforts are underway to diffuse it.
A spokesperson for the Sindh Rangers Pakistan said the paramilitary personnel are taking part in the firefighting operation and have cordoned off the area. More fire engines have been called to control the fire.
Early on Friday morning, a fire broke out at a factory Landhi’s Export Processing Zone in Sherpao Colony. A portion of the factory collapsed as the fire had spread to a nearby factory as well.
According to rescue workers, no one was injured in the fire. There were six fire brigade vehicles at the scene and the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board imposed an emergency at the water hydrant.
In another incident, a fire erupted at Uni Plaza on I.I. Chundrigar Road on Friday as goods worth millions of rupees were burnt to ashes.
Three fire brigade vehicles helped bring the fire under control. They faced a shortage of water and the motors of fire tenders broke down during their operation.
Shopkeepers accused the authorities of delays in putting out the fire. They said the firefighting crew arrived late at the site of the incident. The chief fire officer said the shops filled with smoke were being checked by breaking their locks.
