A Filipina woman who married a Pakistani man after converting to Islam was rescued by police in Lodhran following allegations of domestic abuse.
According to reports, Rosemary, a Filipina national, developed a friendship with 50-year-old Amir through social media. Their relationship later progressed, and after accepting Islam and adopting the name Kaneez Fatima, she travelled to Pakistan and married him.
Sources said the marriage initially proceeded normally, but the woman later alleged that she was subjected to domestic violence, leaving her distressed.
At one point, she secretly contacted a friend in Islamabad, who immediately informed the Lodhran Police and travelled to the city to assist her.
Police subsequently conducted an operation and rescued the woman. According to reports, her in-laws later returned her personal belongings, including Rs1.5 million in cash and her jewellery.
The woman was later sent to Islamabad.
Police said that any further legal action will be taken in accordance with the facts established during the investigation and any formal complaint submitted.
