ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has foiled an attempt to travel to Europe via Saudi Arabia, arresting a passenger over the use of a fake Dutch visa and offloading him at the transit point of Islamabad Airport.

According to FIA details, the passenger was traveling to Saudi Arabia on an Air Blue flight and was believed to be intending to proceed to the Netherlands from there. The individual belongs to Swat district.

FIA said the Netherlands visit visa placed on the passenger’s passport was found to be fake.

Authorities added that the passenger has previously traveled to Malaysia, Thailand and Saudi Arabia.

In a statement, the FIA confirmed that the passenger was offloaded and that an investigation has been initiated into his possible connections with a human trafficking network.

The agency said the passenger’s mobile phone has been seized for forensic examination.

The FIA added that the passenger has been handed over to the Anti-Human Trafficking Circle Islamabad, and further investigations are underway to determine the role of facilitators and whether others were involved in arranging the travel documents.
