LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday claimed to have apprehended six suspects involved in extorting billions of rupees from people across Pakistan mostly by using digital technology.
According to the FIA sources, the group comprising five foreigners and one Pakistani allegedly swindled people on the internet social connecting platform Facebook pretending to be girls.
The cybercrime wing of FIA said the group would send friends request to Pakistani people with fake profiles flaunting profile pictures of foreign women and fleeced millions of rupees from their victims.
FIA claims out of six in the group, the five foreigners belong to Nigeria and have defrauded countless men on the internet. Cybercrime officials, he said, coordinated closely during the course of their investigations, which led to successful actions across the country.
A total of six cases were registered against the suspects, who are under FIA custody, and their disclosures could lead to more arrests, said the FIA officials.
On October 1, The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing had busted a large network operating an international pornographic website from Gujranwala Narowal, arresting one suspect of the gang.
According to sources, the officials of FIA had conducted a raid in Narowal and arrest a man allegedly involved in child pornography.
The spokesman for the FIA said the officials conducted the raid after the information on the accused was shared with the Pakistani authorities by the Brazilian government.
After getting information on the accused from Interpol, the FIA took prompt action and arrested the man allegedly involved in child pornography, he had added.
During the raid the FIA team recovered more than 6,000 child pornography videos from his possession, the spokesman said, adding that the laptop of the accused and other devices have been sent to a forensic lab for examination.
He was part of an international gang involved in child pornography, the official said adding that the agency has acquired a four-day physical remand of the accused after registering a case against him.
