Federal govt and PPP opposes increments in lawmakers’ salaries

ISLAMABAD: The federal government and Pakistan Peoples’ Party has opposed a bill regarding an increase in salaries of lawmakers.
Speaker of National Assembly Asad Qaiser has opposed the bill and termed it as ‘unreasonable’. He said that the country has not come of economic crises yet, adding that the increments in salaries will increase the burden on the national exchequer.
Deputy Chairman Senate Saleem Mandviwala opposed the proposed bill and said that he did not raise voice to increase the salaries, adding that the government should provide relief to poor people instead of this bill.
PTI Senator Faisal Javed has said that the party and its senators will oppose the bill, adding that PM Imran has continuously requested government officials to not spend extravagantly from national funds.
Meanwhile, PPP Senator Sherry Rehman took to Twitter and said, “We will not support the bill on the salary increase for parliamentarians. Public money needs to be spent on public relief right now.”
