The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected more than Rs800 billion in taxes in January 2025, which is less than the target.
According to FBR sources, a tax target of Rs956 billion has been set in January and 156 billion tax will have to be collected on the last day today to meet the January target.
FBR officials said that this month’s tax collection will be close to the target, 40 to 50 billion potential shortfall is not a problem, the IMF sees tax collection on a monthly not quarterly basis.
The target is to collect 3150 billion rupees in taxes from January to March. Therefore, recovery will be better as economic activity picks up in March.
