A young man and a girl were robbed of their motorcycle and valuables at gunpoint in the busy Sector 11-A area of North Karachi, highlighting growing concerns over street crime in the city.
According to footage of the incident, three armed suspects arrived on a motorcycle as the victims were leaving what appeared to be a nearby restaurant. The suspects allegedly threatened them with weapons, snatched the motorcycle and other valuables, and fled the scene.
The incident reportedly occurred in the presence of several people, but witnesses did not intervene due to fear of putting their lives at risk.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, two suspected robbers were killed and a police officer was martyred during an encounter in Karachi’s Orangi Town on Tuesday morning.
District West SSP Tariq Illahi Mastoi said four police officials were conducting motorcycle patrol near Liaquat Chowk within the jurisdiction of Pakistan Bazaar Police Station when they encountered armed suspects.
He said the suspects opened fire upon seeing the police party, prompting officers to retaliate in self-defence. Two suspects were killed during the exchange, while police recovered two pistols, ammunition, spent shell casings and the motorcycle allegedly used by them.
