The Pakistani government has decided to provide substantial financial support and grants for the rehabilitation of the relatives of missing persons, with a maximum allocation of Rs. 5 million per individual.
Azam Nazir Tarar, the federal law minister, announced in Islamabad that the government is committed to addressing the long-standing issue of missing persons in the country.
He attributed the problem to the aftermath of the Afghan war and the resulting terrorism.
Tarar pointed out that global powers had previously used Pakistan as a pawn, leading to the current situation.
He stressed that the government has been actively working to recover missing persons and has established special committees to tackle the issue, both during the previous Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government and the current caretaker government.
Tarar acknowledged the immense suffering endured by the families of missing persons and mentioned that a comprehensive report, compiled after consultations with intelligence agencies and state institutions, was approved by the cabinet. This report serves as the basis for the government’s assistance to the affected families.
