Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rahim Yar Khan, Qandeel Fatima Memon has revealed that fake medicines are being sold in Punjab.
In a post on Facebook, she wrote: “A local medical store was caught selling an unregistered Pyodine. It was sent to the Drug Testing Laboratory, which declared the sample SPURIOUS. Also, sent it to the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), which wrote back that that particular batch of Pyodine is unregistered.”
The ADC further stated in the post that despite getting numerous calls to pardon the culprits, she directed the drug inspector to seal that store lodged an FIR against the owner and distributor, and sent the case to be prosecuted in the Drug Court.
“We cannot let these stores and distributors play with the human lives. What if such fake Pyodine was used on wounds of a woman during her delivery, or on a child when given tetanus? She further stated.
In the post, she emphasized that all medical stores and clinics must meet legal requirements, and there’s no sparing of those not doing so.
“The sale of expired, fake, and substandard medicines is prohibited. Stores selling such medicines without a license will be sealed, and cases will be registered against them,” she concluded.
