The University of Karachi (UoK) has updated its admission policy per the new guidelines set by the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
Increased Passing Marks:
The University of Karachi (UoK) has raised the passing marks for the PhD admission test from 50 to 60, aligning with HEC guidelines.
Admission Schedule and Academic Session:
Admissions for MPhil and PhD programs start on June 23, with the admission test scheduled for July 28. The new academic session begins on September 1.
CGPA Requirement Adjustment:
The CGPA requirement for MPhil admissions has been reduced from 3 to 2.6, approximately 70% marks.
Stricter Publication Requirements for PhD Candidates:
PhD students must publish research in an X-category journal or submit two research papers to Y-category journals. Non-compliance could affect registration in the “Pakistan Country Directory” (PCD).
Introduction of Interdisciplinary Admissions
UoK allows interdisciplinary admissions at MPhil and PhD levels for the first time, subject to Departmental Research Committee approval. Students must complete 9 to 12 credit hours in related courses.
