There is a village in India where every resident has pledged to donate their eyes after death.
According to Indian media, despite the high population ratio in India, the trend of donating human organs is very low there. In such a situation, the residents of Mucherla village in Hanumakonda district of Telangana state have set an example and pledged to donate their eyes after death.
Media reports have stated that this village has a population of about 500 people and in the last few years, 70 people have donated their eyes.
Mandla Ravindra, an irrigation engineer and a resident of the village, told Indian media that he was the first person to take this step decades ago by donating his mother’s eyes. Mandla Ravindra said that he believes that organs should not be wasted after death. I also donated my father’s organs in 2019 and have also pledged to donate my organs.
He added that he has advised other people to do the same so that a positive change can be brought about with the help of someone.
According to media reports, this step of the villagers to donate their eyes has also influenced neighboring villages where 20 people have planned to donate their eyes.
The village’s dedication was recently recognized when it received the ‘Best in Eye Donation’ award from the Governor of Telangana.
