SOUTHAMPTON: The rain-hit second Test between England and Pakistan in Southampton ended without a result today (Monday).
England had made 110-4 in reply to Pakistan’s first innings 236 when a draw was agreed in a match repeatedly interrupted by bad weather and rain.
The fixture was marred by bad weather throughout the five days as only one innings was completed. Meanwhile, the wicket-keeper batsman Muhammad Rizwan named man of the match.
In the post-match presentation, England captain Joe Root said, “We were excited about this week, so it’s disappointing not to get much cricket in,” adding, “However, I thought Zak was excellent today that partnership (with Sibley) was a high class on a very difficult surface.”
Zak Crawley played attractively for 53 and Dom Sibley worked his typically solid game for 32 before getting out strangled down the legside. Both Crawley and Sibley fell to Mohammad Abbas.
Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Azhar Ali said, “It’s been frustrating for both teams, the game was set up quite nicely as the conditions were good for bowling thorough out.”
The result left England 1-0 up in a three-match series ahead of the third Test, also at Southampton, which will be played at the same venue from August 21.
