Joe Root made his return to the England squad as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced a 15-member team for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in the February-March window.
Root, a regular in England’s Test side, has not played in the shorter formats since the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
Also making his return to the ODI side is white-ball captain Jos Buttler, following England’s disappointing performance in the World Cup.
However, dynamic all-rounder Ben Stokes was left out of the squad due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the third Test of England’s recently concluded series against New Zealand.
Before the Champions Trophy, the England team will tour India for a series of three T20Is and three ODIs. The T20I series will be held from January 22 to 28, followed by the ODI series, with matches scheduled for February 6, 9, and 12.
