ISLAMABAD: The federal government has provided Rs18 billion to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the upcoming general elections in the country, local media reported on Saturday.
The ECP has asked for Rs18 billion for pre-election preparations as the commission is facing difficulties in preparing for the elections, ARY News said citing sources.
Report said that the ECP will use this amount for elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
The ECP has asked the government for Rs57 billion to fund the next general elections. In the current fiscal year, Rs. 27 billion of this sum will be received.
The remaining 20 billion rupees will be paid to the commission during the upcoming fiscal year.
The total spending on the 2018 general elections was Rs31 billion, which is relevant to note here.
A technical grant to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for the general elections had previously been agreed on November 29 by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet.
