KARACHI: An elderly transgender person was shot dead here in Karachi’s Korangi neighbourhood, a police official confirmed.
According to details, 65-year-old transgender Mumtaz was killed in his residence in Korangi’s Bilal Colony when unidentified assailants broke into their home and opened fire.
He suffered critical bullet wounds and was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors pronounced him dead. An investigation into the murder is underway.
Meanwhile, Awami Colony SHO Humayun Ahmed Khan has asserted that the victim was the ‘guru’ of transgender persons in the area. He was sitting along with three others in the house when armed pillion riders emerged there.
“One of them stayed outside while the second one entered the house, fired two shots after confirming Mumtaz’s identity and rode away,” he added. SSP Korangi, Captain (r) Faisal Abdullah Chachar claimed that the incident took place over personal enmity.
