KARACHI: An 82-year-old man was killed and his 45-year-old nephew was seriously injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on their moving car in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area, police said.
The incident took place near a department store at Kamran Chowrangi as the victims were returning from Dow Hospital.
The elderly man, identified as Gada Hussain, had reportedly travelled to Karachi from the Dahi area of Sindh for a medical check-up. His nephew, Mujahid, was accompanying him when the vehicle came under attack.
According to Gulistan-e-Jauhar SHO Naeem Rajput, four people were present inside the car at the time of the shooting. Hussain died in the attack, while Mujahid sustained serious injuries. The other two occupants escaped unharmed.
Police said preliminary investigations indicated that around eight suspects riding on four motorcycles opened indiscriminate fire at the vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Investigators are collecting closed-circuit television footage from the area in an effort to identify the attackers and determine their escape route.
The SHO said the incident initially appeared to be linked to personal enmity, although the exact motive had not yet been established. Police are also investigating the identities and possible backgrounds of those involved in the attack.
