KARACHI: The education ministers of Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan have turned down the idea of resuming educational institutes from June.
During a meeting that was chaired by Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mahmood via video conference, the ministers presented their opinions of not reponing schools in the province from 1st June.
According to the ministers, the reopening of educational institutes might result in an exponential increase in COVID-19 infections.
The members also discussed reopening educational institutions using Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)s guided by the government.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), however, supported the idea to restore educational activities from 1st June in order to lessen the students’ educational loss.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan will announce a decision on the same matter in the National Coordination Committee meeting that will be held in Islamabad today.
Earlier on Tuesday, the federal cabinet agreed to further ease the lockdown after 9th May but left the final decision in this regard to the NCC, scheduled to be held today.
The federal cabinet meeting also delayed a summary for printing currency notes without varnishing for two months and rejected a proposal for the import of 429 medicines and their raw material from India.
