ISLAMABAD: An earthquake of 5.8 magnitude shook Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock and Chakwal on Wednesday. No loss of life or property was reported.
According to seismological centre, the depth of the earthquake was 25 kilometres, while its epicentre was the Skardu, Gilgil-Baltistan.
India’s National Center for Seismology also reported a quake in the Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in the Kishtwar region.
It should be note that an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 struck Pakistan’s capital Islamabad on Monday December 18, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre.
Pakistan Metrological Department said that the epicenter of the earthquake was 103 kilometers away from Doda in Indian Held Kashmir. The magnitude on the Ritcher scale was recorded to be 5.8 while its depth was 140 kilometres.
Earlier this year, an earthquake of 6.8 magnitude on the Richter scale jolted parts of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, claiming the lives of at least two people and injuring 180 others.
Recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria have raised many questions about whether the conditions of the infrastructure we have in Pakistan are safe enough, and if our region faces a seismic catastrophe of similar magnitude or even an earthquake of low intensity.
