TV personality Dr Omar Adil has been sent to jail on judicial remand by a judicial magistrate in Lahore, following allegations of using vulgar language against women.
The court denied the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) request for physical remand, opting instead to place Dr Adil in judicial custody. The FIA had arrested Dr Adil on Tuesday, following a complaint lodged by Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, who registered a cybercrime case against him.
On July 27, Azma Bukhari had filed a formal complaint with the FIA against TV personality Dr Omar Adil. The complaint alleged that Adil, in a vlog, portrayed the Punjab chief minister and several female anchors in a defamatory manner. The vlog in question was featured on Adil’s YouTube channel, ‘Ganda Aandaa’, where he serves as a co-host.
The application submitted by the provincial minister called for immediate action against the YouTuber, highlighting the inappropriate and potentially damaging nature of his content. The FIA acknowledged receipt of Bukhari’s complaint and is expected to initiate an investigation.
On Aug 6, the FIA took Dr Omar Adil into custody over allegations of using foul language against a female anchor. According to an FIA spokesperson, the Cyber Crime Wing in Lahore arrested Dr Adil following a complaint from a female anchor working for a private TV channel.
