KARACHI: The city Police have arrested lady assistant Qurat-ul-Ain in connection with the murder case of prominent ophthalmologist Dr. Birbal Genani.
Dr. Birbal Genani was the former director of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and the head of the Spencer Eye Hospital. He also ran a private clinic in the Ranchore Line area of Karachi.
On March 30, unidentified assailants opened fire at a vehicle on Garden Lyari Expressway, leaving Dr. Birbal dead and Qurat-ul-Ain injured with a bullet wound to her shoulder. Dr. Qurat-ul-Ain was immediately shifted to Civil Hospital for medical assistance.
However, on Sunday, the Karachi Police announced the arrest of Dr Birbal’s assistant Qurat-ul-Ain in the Garden area of Karachi. She was taken into custody after the deceased Dr. Birbal’s brother suspected her involvement in the murder. The police investigation is still ongoing.
The murder of Dr. Birbal Genani has caused shockwaves in the medical community in Karachi. Dr. Birbal was a respected physician and had served the people of Karachi for many years. Young Doctors Association had already threatened to go on strike if the killers were not nabbed.
