Police on Friday fired tear gas at PTI supporters, arresting several individuals, including Imran Khan’s sisters Aleema Khan, Uzma Khan, and Naureen Khan, amid a suspension of mobile networks and internet services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Imran Khan supporters reportedly clashed with the police at several places, with some PTI workers burning trees to reduce the impact of the smoke.
A PTI convoy led by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur successfully reached Brahma after clearing obstacles, including containers.
In recent weeks, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has organized numerous rallies across the country to protest against the “illegal” detention of its leader, the delay in the decision of the Pakistan Election Commission to retain seats, and to “defend” the constitution.
The government introduced strict rules ahead of PTI rallies in Islamabad and Lahore earlier this month, but the party did not fully comply with them, leading to clashes with law enforcement.
PTI’s central leadership is yet to reach the D-Chowk but leaders Shaukat Basra and Amir Mughal are in disarray. Earlier, at the Burhan rally, police tried to stop protesters and fired tear gas, arresting at least 30 people, including female PTI supporters.
