KARACHI: The number of confirmed coronavirus cases has surged to 243,559 in Pakistan, while the death toll stands at 5058.
The coronavirus recoveries in the country are now above 149,000 while more than 2,751 cases of coronavirus were reported in the past 24 hours.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), around 75 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours.
As many as 8929 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours taking the total number of recoveries to 149,092. Around 23,255 tests were conducted in the past one day.

Out of the total number of infections, Sindh reported 89,225, around 85,261 cases in Punjab, 29,406 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 10,666 in Balochistan, 13,829 Islamabad, 1,619 in Gilgit Baltistan and 1,160 in Azad Kashmir.
Out of a total of 5058 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 1,063 deaths, Sindh 1,677, Balochistan 125, Gilgit-Baltistan 34, Punjab 1,972, Azad Kashmir 41 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 146 death.
However, the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in COVID-19 cases. Prime Minister Imran Khan earlier on Thursday appealed to the nation to mark the upcoming Eidul Azha with simplicity and take precautionary measures so that the number of COVID-19 cases in the country does not rise again.
“The virus spreads rapidly when a large number of people gather,” said the premier, saying carelessness on Eidul Fitr in May led to a spike in cases in Pakistan.
