The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has once again extended the deadline for income tax return submissions to October 31.
According to an official notification issued late Monday, the extension was granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. The new deadline applies to those required to file returns by September 30, 2024, whose deadline had previously been extended to October 14, 2024, as per circular No. 2 of 2024-25 dated September 30, 2024.
The FBR’s decision comes in response to requests from various trade organizations, tax bar associations, and the recent banking holidays in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. It’s worth noting that these cities recently declared a three-day public holiday ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting, scheduled for October 15 and 16.
This extension follows an earlier FBR deadline adjustment for tax year 2024, initially moved to October 14.
