Cyclone Maha: PMD advises fishermen against trawling

KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has urged fishermen to avoid going into the deep sea today due to the cyclonic storm ‘Maha’.

Maha is reportedly located at a distance of about 770 km south-southwest of Karachi.

It was tracked around the east-central Arabian Sea during last 12 hours.

The Cyclone Maha has maximum sustained surface winds of 180-200 kmph.

Due to Maha, Pakistan’s coastal area is expected to experience gusty winds and moderate showers.

It is likely to track further west or northwestwards during the next 24 hours and then re-curve in east-northeast direction towards Indian Gujarat.

Storm Maha is likely to make landfall along the Gujarat coast in India on the night of 6th November.

The threat of Cyclone Maha comes just a week after Cyclone Kyarr caused a tidal surge and raised the sea level along Karachi’s coastline.

Coastal localities and villages of Hawkes Bay, Ibrahim Hyderi, Lath Basti, Rehman Para, Rehri Goth, and others were inundated, while seawater also entered parts of Defence Housing Authority Golf Club.
