KARACHI: The Customs department has recovered betel nuts worth Rs90 million from Mastung in an operation.
Customs Intelligence Director Muhammad Ismail said that the operation was conducted after the department received information about the smuggling attempt from one of their sources. The betelnuts were hidden in an LPG container.
“There were 33 metric tonnes of betelnuts in it,” Ismail said by adding that these were being sent to other parts of the country from Balochistan. The suspects managed to escape. The police are on the lookout for them and are conducting raids to arrest them as soon as possible.

Last month, non-custom paid items at Abdul Jabbar Shaheed Checkposton Sindh Balochistan Border near Jacobabad were recovered. The items including 998 cartons of cigarettes and 64 bags of betel nuts having worth around Rs 51 million were recovered during a search of trucks and containers on the way to Lahore and Multan. The recovered non-custom paid items which were cigarettes and betelnuts had been handed over to the customs department for further legal formalities.
