ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) chairman, Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik, said on Monday there was no need to be worried about the new Covid variants as no new case had been reported in Pakistan in the past few days.
The NDMA chairman, while presiding over the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) meeting, informed that the percentage of vaccinated people in Pakistan was highest in the world. They would maintain their strength and the public would not heed false Covid reports.
He further said the situation was under control and they were tracking the potentially new variants in other countries in the region. He added: “We are aware of the challenges during the new constructions in the flood-affected areas and are trying to take decisions based on facts and figures.
If a Covid situation follows in, all institutes will work together to eradicate it.”

The National Health Institute (NHI), the NCOC, the Border Health Services (BHS), the National Information Technology Board (NITB and other provincial health secretaries participated in the meeting.
The NCOC and NHI officials briefed the meeting on the current situation of Covid cases which is only 0.5 per cent and only two patients are on ventilators. In the past week, seven Covid patients were admitted to hospitals.
The spokesperson added, “The spread of the new Covid variant is not that rapid and the situation is under control. The institutions are all set to fight the new variant.”
The BHS said surveillance at airports and other entry points had been increased due to the new variant.
The meteorological department also briefed the participants on the winter situation in Pakistan, whereas the NITB informed the forum about the flood-stricken farmers’ situation, using a digital App.
