In November 2024, cooking oil and ghee prices saw a significant increase in the open market, despite a reduction in the inflation rate.
Reports indicate that the price of first-grade ghee and oil rose by Rs. 54 per kilogram, while the prices of second and third-grade ghee and oil went up by Rs. 60 per kilogram.
The retail price of first-grade oil and ghee has jumped from Rs. 505 to Rs. 559. The price of second-grade ghee, which was previously priced at Rs440, has risen to Rs. 500.
Retail prices for ghee now range between Rs. 525 and Rs. 530 in various areas.
The cost of second-grade oil, which was being sold for Rs. 452 per liter, has increased to Rs. 512, with some locations pricing it between Rs. 530 and Rs. 540.
In a separate development, the price of sugar, a staple food item in Pakistan, dropped by Rs. 13 per kilogram at utility stores nationwide last week.
The Utility Stores Corporation announced that the new price of sugar would be Rs. 140 per kilogram, effective immediately. Previously, sugar was being sold for Rs. 153 per kilogram at these stores.
