ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that convincing the Afghan Taliban for table talks was not easy.
Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan helped the Afghan peace process at every step and convinced the Afghan Taliban for table talks.
He said that the United States and the international community admired our country’s part in the Afghan peace process but he added that the calmed solution of such conflict was not an easy job.
Qureshi urged the need for a general dialogue for a political solution of a decades-long war-torn country.
Earlier on February 18, United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tadamichi Yamamoto called on Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi where matters pertaining to Afghan Refugees, the Afghan peace process and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’s recent visit came under discussion.
On the occasion, Qureshi said that a stable and prosperous Afghanistan was vital for the economic progress of the entire region.
Qureshi further said, “Peace in the war-torn country imperative for regional connectivity.”
He maintained that Pakistan opened the Torkham corridor to boost bilateral trade between the two countries, adding that the corridor will remain open for 24-hours a day.
