KARACHI: Pakistan has reported 192,970 coronavirus cases so far, continuing with its daily addition of a significant number of COVID-19 patients, while the death toll stands at 3,930.
According to the National Command and Control Center (NCOC), more than 4,044 cases of coronavirus were reported while 148 people succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours. As many as 73,471 patients have recovered from the disease, while the country is still witnessing a consistent rise in the COVID-19 cases.
There have been 71,191 cases so far been detected in Punjab, 74,070 in Sindh, 23,887 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 9,634 in Balochistan, 11,483 Islamabad, 1,365 in Gilgit Baltistan and 930 in Azad Kashmir.
Out of a total of 3,930 deaths, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has reported 869 deaths, Sindh 1,124, Balochistan 176, Gilgit-Baltistan 23, Punjab 1602, Azad Kashmir 25 and Islamabad Capital Territory has reported 108 death.
Pakistan now has one of the fastest infection rates in the world, with 185,000 confirmed cases and upwards of 5,000 new infections a day. The planning minister, Asad Umar had earlier warned that cases could multiply eightfold by the end of July and hit 1.2 million.
Lockdown restrictions were lifted in Pakistan last month on 18th May by the supreme court when it said the virus was ‘not a pandemic in Pakistan’ and questioned why the fight to contain it was ‘swallowing so much money’.
