Undoubtedly due to internal and external security threats, having a powerful army is a necessity for Pakistan. So, despite economic hardships, the nation is compelled to allocate a huge amount for defence in every annual budget. God thank, because of these financial sacrifices as well as love and full support of the nation, Pakistan Army is called one of the best and powerful armies of the world. Certainly, full public support is essential for a country’s army to meet the challenges, otherwise no army can meet internal and external security challenges without this support.
At the end of this month, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Qamar Javed Bajwa is going to retire and the nation has to appoint a new chief of its powerful army. As per the constitution of the country, the incumbent prime minister enjoys the authority to select a lieutenant general as a new army chief. The Defence Ministry sends a list of a few lieutenant generals, eligible to become army chief, to the Prime Minister and the latter selects a name from the list.
Appointment of the new COAS should ideally be a routine task, but, unfortunately, some political elements in the country are trying to make this important appointment controversial just for their vested interests. Everyone knows that after the change of federal government in April this year, a smear campaign was started against the army and its leadership on social media, which severely hurt every patriotic Pakistani. Now the elements behind this malignment want to make the appointment of the new army chief controversial.
If these elements succeed in their evil intentions, it will cause irreparable damage to the nation and country as weakening of the army means weakness of the country. So, in this crucial time, it is the responsibility of every patriotic politician as well as every media person to play a role to foil this conspiracy against the army and the country, and discourage those elements who are behind it.
