KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) favourite Dr Amjad Siraj Memon, who came second on the Merit list, has been appointed Vice-Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) today (Tuesday).
According to a notification reviewed by M.M News, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah has appointed Prof Dr Siraj Memon as Vice Chancellor of Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) Karachi.
There were speculations about Dr Siraj’s appointment since he was invited for a meeting with Chief Minister of Sindh. It was earlier reported that efforts are being made to appoint Siraj Memon as VC.
Sources further claimed that Dr Amjad Siraj Memon has family terms with several leaders Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). He was also an obstacle in the extension of Dow Medical University Vice-Chancellor Saeed Qureshi, sources added.
Earlier, Chairman Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr Asim Hussain demanded that the search committee set up in connection with the appointment of vice-chancellors in government universities in Sindh be suspended and reorganized.
In a letter to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the chairman of Sindh Higher Education Commission said that the recently appointed vice-chancellors by the search committee do not comply with the HEC standard.
“There is favouritism. I don’t have proof but there is definitely moral corruption and unfit people have been appointed vice-chancellors who carry baggage,” Dr Asim wrote in the letter.
