LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has sought a report from top police officials regarding the network of alleged cocaine dealer Anmol alias Pinki, who was arrested in Karachi on drug trafficking charges, sources said on Wednesday.
The Crime Control Department (CCD) has also started a formal investigation into the accused’s network, officials confirmed.
Former police inspector Rana Ikram, the alleged husband of Anmol Pinki, has been summoned by the CCD for questioning in the case, according to sources.
Officials said the accused would also be brought to Lahore after being summoned in a case registered at Kot Lakhpat police station. The accused was not declared a fugitive in that case, sources added.
It should be noted that a case was filed in Lahore against Riaz Baloch, the brother of Anmol Pinki, who was arrested from Karachi’s Garden area.
According to Lahore police, a drug smuggling case was registered against Riaz Baloch at Kot Lakhpat police station in 2022. During questioning, the accused told officers that his sister Anmol alias Pinki — who had escaped — was his sibling.
Police said a boy and a girl had come to Shadab Colony in a luxury car to sell drugs. When the car stopped, the boy got out to deliver narcotics and was restrained by officers. The girl drove away at high speed, officials said.
A case under Section 9C of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act was registered against Pinki’s brother. He was later challaned in the drug case, police added.
Punjab Police maintain that Anmol alias Pinki herself has no criminal record in the province.
