KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has directed the civic agencies to complete the cleaning and de-silting of storm-water drains without delay.
He said that special focus be given to opening up of various choked drains as rainwater could not pass smoothly from these points and might spill over the drain banks inundating nearby low-lying areas causing hardships to residents.
The minister expressed these views while chairing a meeting of various representatives of other municipal corporations.
He directed that the solid waste and debris, etc, that was taken out of the drains during the clean-up operation be removed immediately and be disposed of as if it was kept there, it would re-enter the drains during the rains choking the nullahs.
Nasir Shah said, “Overcoming the difficult situation during and after the rains is a tough task for us but through combined and coordinated efforts of all the DMCs, KMC, water Board, Cantonment and DHA, success will be achieved”.
