BEIJING: China has reacted on speech of US President Joe Biden, made today during his State of the Union address, and said that it won’t avoid or fear competition, but it does oppose using it to define China-US relations.
During today’s speech, President Biden said he would cooperate with great power rival China, but vowed “to protect our country,” a reference to a Chinese spy balloon that traveled across America last week.
“I’m committed to work with China where we can advance American interests and benefit the world,” Biden said. “But make no mistake about it: as we made clear last week, if China threatens our sovereignty, we will act to protect our country. And we did.”
Reacting on Biden’s speech, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said “China won’t avoid or fear competition, but opposes using it to define China-US relations, contain China’s legitimate devt rights and harm global industrial & supply chain.”
The spokesperson further said that China would deal with Sino-US relations based on mutual respect, peaceful co-existence and win-win cooperation while defending its sovereignty, safety and interests, urging US to hold objective and rational perception and active & pragmatic China policy.
She said “The US’ use of force to attack a civilian unmanned Chinese airship is unacceptable and irresponsible. Exaggerating and playing up the threat from China will not help improve mutual trust and relations between China and the US, nor will it make the US safer.”
