Royal Artillery Gunner Jaysley Beck is believed to have taken her own life after “an intense period of unwelcome behavior” by one of her bosses, an Army investigation has found.
Teenage soldier Jaysley-Louise Beck, 19, died at Larkhill Camp in Wiltshire in December 2021 following an ‘intense period’ of ‘unwelcome behavior’ from a superior, according to an armed forces inquiry report.
A redacted version of the internal review, published on Wednesday, details how Beck received more than 1,000 messages and voicemails from her boss in October 2021. In November, the number of messages increased to more than 3,500. The boss is not named in the report.
“It is almost certain this was a causal factor in her death,” the report said. In the weeks before her death, she messaged her boss to say: “I can’t handle it any more. It’s weighing me down.”
There were also three potential contributory factors highlighted by the report, which included Ms Beck’s sexual relationship with a married SNCO (Senior Non-Commissioned Officer) in the final weeks before her death.

This came after her long-term relationship, of roughly 20 months, ended in November 2021, and was deemed to be a possible influence, while the report noted Ms Beck’s “unhealthy approach to alcohol” was “highly likely” to have been a third contributory factor in her death.
Ms McCready, of Oxen Park in Cumbria, said her daughter would ring the family saying his behavior was becoming “increasingly worrying towards her”.
She added: “It was very apparent how it emotionally affected her. It took its toll on Jaysley, she was a very strong character, so for Jaysley to cry, there was something really hurting her feelings.”
Ms McCready described not being able to get hold of her daughter on December 15 2021, then someone answering Gunner Beck’s phone who said “I’m sorry”. Ms McCready said that is how she found out about her daughter’s death.
